Yesterday I had a very interesting and enjoyable game in the County Fours league. We played away, lost quite heavily, but I had an excellent game leading, I should explain a little more?
At 71, I'm a little like Aldi bananas, better yesterday than today. But because I try and specialise playing lead these days, I tend to get picked for most competitions that are going. 😍
Our club like many these days, is full of retired and old people, with an average age of around 65 I'd guess. However, the place we visited yesterday has invested in youth, and is now the best club for Internationals, National, and County players, in our region.
I played against a young chap in his 30s, National player and not only a very good bowler, but a really nice guy. We had some great banter, and I'd like to say I matched him bowl for bowl, my skip sadly had a nightmare, as did our number two, but three and myself kept us in the game.
While we lost by over 10 shots, in the 21 ends, 11 singles were scored, so a great game really. I find that providing you can keep the nerves at bay, playing better players can really improve your game. While having a little chat, and maybe a joke with the other team helps even more. I'm told that on one rink, were a young International player was performing, he did not speak to any of my team mates, even when thet tried to engage him?
Have you had a really good game recently, that made you feel good about your bowling, do tell?😎
